Air Bases and Deployment

The NKAF maintains a network of approximately 70 air fields, including jet and non-jet bases, emergency runways, and undisclosed locations. Recent satellite imagery has revealed significant maintenance and expansion activities at the Sunchon Airbase.

The NKAF's last major operation was the interception of the US surveillance aircraft. In 1982, North Korea produced domestic variants of the F-5E fighter, known as the Jegong-ho.

modernization and Expansion

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has prioritized the modernization of the KPAF. The force has recently held public airshows, showcasing new aircraft and capabilities. The NKAF is also actively engaged in developing and upgrading its air defense systems.

Regional Tensions and Military Buildup

North Korea's military capabilities, including its air force, are closely monitored by neighboring countries. South Korea has scrambled military aircraft in response to North Korean air maneuvers. The NKAF's role in defending North Korea's airspace and supporting its nuclear weapons program remains a significant factor in regional security.
